Songbirds Day Nursery relocates

SONGBIRDS DAY NURSERY and Kids Club have relocated to Station Road, Preston.
Songbirds, established by local resident Susan Goodwin, had to move from its previous location on Staithes Road because of the imminent construction of two new wind turbines on the land leased by the nursery.
The new location is:
Highfield House, Station Road, Preston, HU12 8UY
Susan tells us:
Work has started on the new site, improving and enlarging the parking area to the front of the property and inside adding extra toilets and decorating. The house is of historical interest as it is on the old windmill site! We will be having an open day at the end of January 2012.”
You can now catch up with all the news from the Songbirds Day Nursery on its Facebook Page.

HU12 eMarketplace – What do you think about idea?
Let your fingers do the… typing!
THE YELLOW PAGES was famous for the phrase Let your fingers do the walking which referred to browsing through the large telephone-book style directory. However, in response to declining revenues from its directories, Yell, as the company is now known, is completely re-inventing itself as a provider of digital services.
In its latest half-yearly company results, Yell reports that its print and other directory revenue declined 19.3% in six months while its total digital revenue grew 9.1%. Its digital services now account for 30.0% of revenue.
In July 2011, Yell announced a new strategy to transform the Group from being a leading supplier of print and online advertising for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to being a leader in the emerging local eMarketplace – and that strategy seems to be paying off.
“Since announcing its strategy in July, Yell has made significant progress in building the eMarketplace. The local eMarketplace comprises an innovative platform and digital portal where consumers and SMEs can connect and transact, allowing Yell to offer a broader range of digital solutions and services.” Yell Group plc interim results.
Why should this interest us in the HU12 area?
The idea of transforming local directory services into an online space where customers and businesses can interact and ‘do business’ would seem to be a logical route for HU12 Online and this Business Page to develop its business services. The Business Page is a listing of local businesses and how to contact them. It is designed primarily with local residents in mind i.e. provide them with a simple search facility to find particular types of businesses. But that service could quite easily be complemented with our own local HU12 eMarket to actually boost businesses and business.
A local HU12 eMarket would be the place where products and services could be bought and sold; local customers could be matched with local companies; bookings could be taken for restaurants and entertainment venues; new relationships between residents and local businesses – and between businesses – could be created and nurtured.
What do you think of the concept of a local HU12 eMarket? Please leave a comment with your views over on HU12.
